597 Episode 9. Words That Can’t Be Said (3)

The moment could not have been more ideal.

[A new chapter of ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ is now available on the platform.]

Though, this was the first time I could recall receiving an update alert.

I felt a strong urge to check my phone, but it was an impossible luxury at that moment.

A brutal conflict between humans and monsters was raging just meters away.

«No. What is that—»

Ye Hyunwoo’s eyes went wide as he witnessed Jung Heewon’s combat prowess.

«Now that I think about it, wasn’t Cheon Inho originally slain by Jung Heewon? That was when she earned the title ‘Judge of Destruction’.»

«Correct.»

«Then how has Jung Heewon awakened her power now?»

«It’s a long story. For now, let’s just observe.»

Drenched in scarlet blood, Jung Heewon had already severed over a third of the centipede’s many legs.

‘Demon Slaying Judge.’

The Judge’s inherent trait, which caused her combat abilities to surge explosively against monsters, harmonized perfectly with her mastery of Kendo.

*Skreeeegak!*

With every precise swing of Jung Heewon’s blade, half a dozen of the centipede’s legs were sheared off at once.

Her swordplay was swift and exact, evading the creature’s line of sight while systematically targeting its limbs.

Kyung Sein brandished his shield and cheered.

«Waaah! Heewon is amazing!»

Even Lee Jihye, who had been idly waiting on the stairs, watched the fight with captivated eyes.

«Wow, she’s dominating it…»

To single-handedly overwhelm a 7th grade monster species, and a King variant at that, was a feat. It was a level of battle previously only seen from Yoo Joonghyuk, and now Jung Heewon was demonstrating it before us all.

She was so deeply concentrated that her internal monologue resonated clearly in my ears.

「 I will not be defeated. 」

The immediate threat was a monster, yet in a way, she wasn’t truly fighting it.

「 Next time, for certain. 」

She was alone, battling an imagined adversary—a man whose skill with a sword surpassed anyone she had ever known. Visualizing his techniques, she swung her sword again and again.

「 I must be quicker. 」

Jung Heewon understood. Yoo Joonghyuk’s sword was the very essence of martial arts, refined through the time and effort of countless masters. She could not yet follow its path, but she could perceive its ultimate direction.

A sword style forged to fracture the very heavens of this world and bring the stars down.

Breaking the Sky Swordsmanship.

[The character ‘Jung Heewon’s’ skill proficiency is increasing at a tremendous rate!]

Her swordplay was blossoming from that bitter defeat. A faint, bluish energy was now emanating from her ground rat knife.

Dedicated Sword Force.

It was unmistakable. Though still weak, it was the same Dedicated Sword Force utilized by the masters of Murim.

[The constellation ‘Maritime War God’ is astonished by the incarnation ‘Jung Heewon’s’ talent.]

[The constellation ‘Goryeo’s First Sword’ has entered the channel.]

[The constellation ‘Goryeo’s First Sword’ is observing the incarnation ‘Jung Heewon’ with keen interest.]

A technique she had developed on her own, without a teacher, without even learning a supreme skill. When I considered it, Jung Heewon had always been exceptionally gifted in the original story.

Could she potentially reach Yoo Joonghyuk’s level in this regression?

[Your ‘Free Comments Daily Pass’ will expire soon!]

First, they promoted the new chapter, and now they were threatening to take the pass away.

[You currently possess a total of 6 ‘Free Comments Daily Passes’.]

[Free Comments Daily Passes accumulate to a maximum of 2 and will expire if not used before the day ends.]

My mind raced. A glance at my watch showed it was nearly midnight. Each pass cost a staggering 3,000 coins.

Just then, Ye Hyunwoo gave a signal.

«Everyone on the front line, except for Jung Heewon, fall back now! We will establish a new line and begin concentrated fire!»

With Jung Heewon occupying the giant centipede, the formations of the surrounding ground rats and grolls had completely disintegrated. Ye Hyunwoo seized the opportunity and gave the order to attack.

*Dududududu!*

A brief lull arrived in the back-and-forth struggle. It would be acceptable to check the comments for a moment.

I blended into the crowd, moved to the rear, and swiftly opened my phone to launch the platform app.

Episode 9. Words That Can’t Be Said (3)+[24]
Episode 9. Words That Can’t Be Said (2)+[21].
Episode 9. Words That Can’t Be Said (1)+[32].
……

That was an overwhelming number of chapters for such a short period. At a quick count, there were over forty.

What had I done to progress this far already? I hadn’t even completed the ‘Emergency Defense Battle’ scenario.

Come to think of it, I still didn’t know who the author was.

«Those in the rear, check your equipment! We resume in five minutes!»

Time was short, so I decided to look at the most recent comments. Perhaps they would contain something useful.

[1 free daily pass will be deducted.]

[One random comment from the episode will be revealed, regardless of order.]

—Oh

……

Even with a free pass, this never failed to irritate me.

Fortunately, I still had five passes remaining.

[1 free daily pass will be deducted.]

—Uh

Leaving a single-syllable comment should be illegal.

[1 free daily pass will be deducted.]

—Yoo

Yoo?

I spent another pass.

—Joong

If the next comment I saw was ‘Hyuk’, I thought I might actually want to perish.

I was anxiously about to use my fifth free pass when a new notification appeared.

[A new feature has been updated!]

[You may spend an additional 1,000 coins to view the comments that have received the most ‘upvotes’.]

One thousand coins. It was pricey, but… if a comment was highly recommended, it was more likely to contain substantial information, wasn’t it?

[1 free daily pass will be deducted.]

[You have spent an additional 1,000 coins.]

[Checking the comment that received the most ‘upvotes’.]

A comment materialized instantly.

—Yoo Joonghyuk is stuck on the sunfish route again

Upvotes 236 / Downvotes 5

‘Sunfish’ was the nickname readers used for Yoo Joonghyuk, who frequently died and regressed.

My head spun. Did this mean Yoo Joonghyuk was going to die? But that couldn’t be. The Yoo Joonghyuk I encountered in the 41st regression was more of a ‘scumbag’ than a ‘sunfish’.

In the distance, Jung Heewon, having finished severing all the giant centipede’s legs, moved in for the final strike.

«Prepare to advance in one minute!»

The five minutes were almost over. After a moment’s hesitation, I used the final pass.

[You’ve used all your free daily passes.]

[You have spent an additional 1,000 coins.]

—Yoo Joonghyuk is not the problem, Cheon Inho is about to catch up

Upvotes 189 / Downvotes 3

I scanned my surroundings with a sudden spike of anxiety. Gong Pildu was steadily firing his shells, and the line of ground rats had been thoroughly pushed back. Having finished the giant centipede, Jung Heewon was now sprinting toward us, crushing a ground rat’s head under her foot with each step.

Nothing seemed amiss. Time hadn’t frozen, and the world hadn’t lost its color, so—!

———!

The platform floor directly in front of me erupted. I was thrown into the air as debris screeched and scattered in all directions.

My ears ringing, I spat out dust and struggled to my feet. My vision hadn’t cleared, making it impossible to discern what had occurred. A man who had been fighting ground rats moments before was now being torn apart, his body severed at the waist. Terrified people scrambled backward on their hands and knees.

The fortification had been obliterated by a single, devastating explosion. The ground rats had shattered the turret line and were now ripping the incarnations to pieces.

«Help me! Someone, help!»

Through the settling dust, I could see the wreckage of Gong Pildu’s turrets, his proud [Private Property] and [Armed Zone] both utterly destroyed. Ye Hyunwoo was shaking the bleeding, unconscious Gong Pildu.

«Ahjussi! Ahjussi!»

What in hell had happened? Everything was proceeding smoothly just moments ago. There hadn’t even been a warning from ‘⬜⬜’.

What was going on.

*Kkukukukuku.*

A monster species emerged from the settling cloud of dust.

[‘Emergency Defense Battle’ has entered a new phase.]

[An additional 7th grade monster species has appeared!]

A Giant Centipede. This one was even larger than the specimen Jung Heewon had just defeated. Jung Heewon stretched out her hand and cried out.

«Inho-ssi!»

Another explosion tore through the ground.

[An additional 7th grade monster species has appeared!]

The tail of the newly emerged beast slammed directly into Jung Heewon. I just managed to catch her body as she was sent flying backward.

«Heewon-ssi.»

Jung Heewon gasped in pain. It seemed she had taken a heavy blow to her back right as her [Hour of Judgement] state ended. A middle-aged man crawling on the ground beside us screamed.

«E-everyone, run away!»

The man stepped on my phone, which had fallen to the ground. Above the cracked screen, the platform page I had been viewing was still visible.

Episode 9. Words That Can’t Be Said (3)+[34]

The comments were increasing in real time. All I could see were the words of my readers. I had no idea how the chapters were actually being written.

「 «You’ve all thought about it at least once: In that world, what kind of life will those who are not chosen by Kim Dokja live?» 」

I wondered if, within those 5,000 characters, our story was being written accurately. How many had perished in this ‘Emergency Defense Battle’ that Kim Dokja never saw to its conclusion? How many had suffered? What stories had been told? Would the reader of this chapter know any of that now?

「 «I believe you know the truth about what it’s like to be an ‘extra’ in this world.» 」

Probably not. Because their deaths were not the stories people wished to read.

[The constellation ‘Prisoner of the Golden Headband’ yawns and says he’s getting a little bored.]

[The constellation ‘Abyssal Black Flame Dragon’ demands a more novel scenario resolution.]

Because the death of a commonplace extra failed to capture the attention of any star.

[A constellation who hasn’t revealed their modifier is watching your choice.]

As I stood up, still holding Jung Heewon, a ground rat lunged through the dust.

«What are you doing? Have you lost your mind?»

With a sharp *snap*, it was cut in two. Lee Jihye stood in front of me.

«Master told me to keep you alive.»

She spat out her gum and didn’t even bother to look back at me, as if I were an annoyance. The giant centipede that had spotted us began moving in our direction.

«I can’t handle something like that either. I’ll just buy some time, so pull yourself together and get upstairs now.»

Lee Jihye was strong. Adversity of this caliber wouldn’t claim her life. The author of this story knew it, and the reader knew it. Lee Jihye herself probably knew it, too.

「 But what about Cheon Inho? 」

I slowed my pace and came to a stop beside Lee Jihye. Her eyes widened in surprise as she cut down the approaching ground rats.

«What?»

«Please look after Heewon-ssi.»

Lee Jihye, accepting Jung Heewon without argument, stared at me in shock. I ignored her and began walking forward. I drove a thorn into the head of an oncoming ground rat and continued onward.

«What the hell! Ahjussi! Do you genuinely have a death wish?»

Die?

«I won’t die.»

If this were truly a life-or-death situation, time would have stopped and the world would have drained of color. I would have been presented with a manuscript opener listing dire scene titles like ‘The Death of the Villain’, ‘The Villain’s Crisis’, or ‘The Villain’s End’.

Therefore, this current silence was a clear opening line meant for me.

「 Cheon Inho won’t die here. 」

«Ah, stop! You’re really going to get yourself killed!»

The platform was strewn with the corpses of dead ground rats and humans. I blinked slowly, committing the scene to memory like a photograph.

[Describe your own behavior.]

[You have spent 5 probability points.]

The reason I activated my skill now was not to ensure my survival.

[The exclusive skill ‘⬜⬜’ is activated.]

It was only because I had something I wished to write.
