Chapter 855

Heart Sword (Simgeom). A supreme technique within the art of the sword. It is a state understood only by a rare few masters who have ascended to the Hwagyeong stage.
This unity of the sword and the self—often called the «Oneness of Sword and Soul» by practitioners—is the ultimate aspiration for those who follow the martial way. It is an absolute power, comprehensible only to one who has attained that very realm.

«…You vile…»

The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect gripped his chest, a low sound of pain forced from his throat.
He had been hit. Blood was streaming out, drenching the fabric of his martial arts uniform.
What had struck him? A projection of sword energy? No.
As a supreme swordsman himself, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect already knew what had cut him.

«How could the likes of you manifest the Heart Sword…!»

It was the Heart Sword. He could not be mistaken. The unique sensation of the wound was undeniable.
Such an injury could not be inflicted without it.

«Urk.»

More blood poured from his lips, spattering onto the floor.
The damage was severe. Had he not shifted at the final instant, the blow would have killed him outright.

«…Tch.»

Wincing, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect lifted his head.
His gaze fixed on the detestable woman who had reduced him to this condition.
Swords were littered across the ground. Though infused with destructive energy, none had pierced the floor. This chamber was impervious to damage, regardless of the force applied.
Yet, the attack had connected. While the space itself remained intact, its occupant had been grievously marked.

The woman was also wounded.
Blood seeped from the rips in her uniform, painting crimson trails down her white neck.
It was obvious she had forsaken all defense to execute her strike.
Even so, in her battered state where simply remaining upright was a trial, she…

«Are you… smiling?»

She was grinning, as if she were genuinely enjoying the situation.

«Ha… ha…»

A dry, humorless laugh escaped the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect as he saw it.

«Truly… you are a demon.»

This was a fight for survival. And yet, against an opponent of his stature, she was taking pleasure in it.
It was insanity. A sliver of dread insinuated itself into the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect’s mind.
He purged it immediately.

«…Do not become arrogant.»

He forced his body straight, ignoring the agony. The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect stood firm.
The wound pulsed painfully, but he had already staunched the bleeding by directing his internal energy.

«Do you believe one successful hit means you can win?»

A resonant hum filled the air. The scattered swords on the floor levitated and returned to him.
They began to circle around him in a protective ring.

«Your failure to sever my neck with that attack… that was your mistake.»

He shot a piercing glare and pointed a finger.
Instantly, the swords hurtled toward Namgung Bi-ah with immense velocity.
Streaks of light traced the paths of the flying blades.
«…»
The swords moved with a lethal, graceful precision. Their aura was razor-sharp, immense, a clear reflection of their master’s power.
Every single one was a fatal threat.
«…»
Namgung Bi-ah, however, merely watched the oncoming blades quietly, her faint smile still in place.
Then, she started to move.
Her motions were fluid and almost lazy, as though she were swaying in a soft wind.
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect frowned as he observed.
Her actions were seamless, like silk drifting on a breeze. Her grace was mesmerizing, and combined with her striking beauty, it created a scene of extraordinary allure.
‘What is her intention?’
It was senseless in this context. What purpose did such elegance serve in a mortal struggle?
A warrior dancing amid bloodshed could only be seen as a manifestation of madness.
‘Has she lost her mind?’
Maybe she had surrendered to despair after her ultimate technique fell short.
But the moment that thought formed—
*Swish!*
«…!»
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect’s eyes widened. He saw something within those seemingly meaningless movements.
The swords under his command continued to slice through the air. Their speed exceeded sound, their numbers were vast.
*Swish! Swish!*
«You…!»
Yet, despite the multitude of blades targeting her, Namgung Bi-ah’s robes remained uncut.
Her footsteps were silent.
Her gentle, delicate motions evaded every single attack.
She was as light as a plume. A strong wind might have carried her away. And yet, she maintained that precarious equilibrium as she advanced.
‘What is this?’
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect could not help but feel astonishment. Her movements defied all logic.
They were actions no conventional martial artist would ever perform.
She had stepped completely outside the framework of standard combat.
Her form was ethereal, leaving the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect gaping in shock.
‘This…’
What was happening?
His eyes, wide with disbelief, remained locked on Namgung Bi-ah as she weaved through the storm of swords.
It didn’t look like she was dodging.
It was as if the swords were intentionally missing her.
The scene appeared both perfectly natural and unnaturally contrived.
One sword missed. Then another.
Namgung Bi-ah, unwavering, kept walking through the blizzard of steel.
She didn’t even look at the blades flashing past her.
‘That’s…!’
Finally, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect identified her state.
She had entered a realm of complete selflessness—Muahjigyeong.
‘…To achieve such a state while engaged with me!’
In the middle of their combat, surrounded by flying swords and her own injuries, she had attained Transcendent Selflessness.
‘Even for one who revels in battle, this is pure audacity.’
Gritting his teeth, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect reached out. One of the swords arcing through the air changed its trajectory and flew into his hand.
The instant his fingers closed around the hilt, an energy far more violent than before erupted from the blade.
His wounds were agonizing, but such concerns were now irrelevant.
‘I will kill her.’
Whether she was a Star King or a battle maniac, it no longer mattered. He would simply erase her.
Anything less would be an insult to his pride.
What could Transcendent Selflessness or the Heart Sword ultimately achieve?
Such arts were futile.
In the end, the victor would be him.
‘I had wished to withhold this, but…’
It seemed necessary. A faint whisper of apprehension sounded in his mind, but he silenced it.
The swords accelerated further, the energy from his dantian exploding like a typhoon.
At this level of exertion, the conflict would be concluded in less than half a quarter of an hour.
But that was sufficient.
‘It is enough.’
The swords converged on Namgung Bi-ah, and the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect launched himself forward.
A streak of light cut through the air.
Every blade was aimed at Namgung Bi-ah, yet she continued forward without pause.
A sword skimmed her shoulder, shredding her robe and drawing a line of blood.
Still, she did not halt.
The distance between them vanished. Another sword came in, forcing Namgung Bi-ah to contort her body to avoid it.
But this was a diversion.
The altered trajectory made evasion more difficult, and a third sword shot directly toward her.
Namgung Bi-ah swung her own blade.
*Crack!*
Her sword, charged with lightning, split the atmosphere and parried the incoming weapon.
*Clang!* The deflected sword clattered across the floor.
In that opening, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect arrived before her.
Three swords had occupied her attention, allowing him to bridge the gap at maximum speed.
Namgung Bi-ah’s eyes flickered slightly as she registered his approach.
Seeing her expression, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect fine-tuned his own velocity.
*Slash!*
A thin cut appeared on the bridge of her nose—a glancing blow from the Heart Sword.
Though he had not perfected the Heart Sword, he could perceive it. He had narrowly avoided a direct hit.
He had finally reached her.
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect smiled coldly as he raised his sword.
«I told you.»
His blade swept down.
«Your failure to kill me with that strike was your end.»
A blow she could not block.
His sword aimed for her slender, pale neck.
But—
*Clang!*
«…!»
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect’s sword was knocked aside.
An intervention had deflected his blade. His eyes dropped.
The first thing he saw was hair the color of gold.
Next were dazzling golden eyes, burning like fire.
«You…!»
Recognizing the figure, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect stifled his shock.
In that same moment—
*Thud! Thud, thud!*
«Gah!»
Dozens of golden swords, forged from pure energy, pierced the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect’s chest.
The impact hurled him backward; he smashed into a wall and crumpled to the floor.
Wi Seol-ah turned urgently.
«Unni!»
Namgung Bi-ah had dropped to her knees.
Her breath came in ragged gasps, her exhaustion finally overwhelming her.
«Haa… Haa…»
«Unni, are you alright? I’m so sorry… I lost my focus for a moment….»
Wi Seol-ah’s eyes welled with tears as she reached out, her voice fraught with worry.
Namgung Bi-ah lifted a hand and gently patted Wi Seol-ah’s shoulder.
«I’m… fine.»
«But…!»
«…I’m fine… That was enjoyable.»
«…What?»
Namgung Bi-ah’s face sincerely expressed that she had found the situation thrilling.
«You’ve lost so much blood. Let me stop the bleeding first.»
«…Alright…»
Before she could even finish, Wi Seol-ah placed a hand on Namgung Bi-ah’s back and channeled her internal energy into her. She managed to stem the bleeding.
However, the pain and fatigue had already pushed past their limits. Though Namgung Bi-ah had somewhat recovered her bearings, it was evident that their current predicament was due to Wi Seol-ah’s earlier inability to join the fight.
Wi Seol-ah repeatedly bit her lip, guilt consuming her.
«I’m sorry, Unni. First, we need to leave this place quickly—»
*Cough!*
A cough from the direction of the wall made Wi Seol-ah’s expression turn to ice in an instant.
«…Wait here for a moment. I will handle this.»
Drawing her sword, Wi Seol-ah advanced.
«Heh… heh heh…»
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect was slumped on the floor, his back to the wall. Blood trickled from his mouth as he laughed weakly, staring at the energy swords impaled in his chest.
«…How idiotic of me to forget about you, even for a moment. I should have killed you first.»
He had been aware of the other woman from the start. But, blinded by his own hubris, he had committed a fatal error. He should have ended her immediately.
«…A regrettable oversight…»
The words left his lips, but Wi Seol-ah offered no reply. She simply charged toward him, aiming to behead him.
As if accepting his fate, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect reached into his sleeve and withdrew an object.
«This treasured item… To think I would be forced to use it now.»
Seeing what he held, Wi Seol-ah increased her speed.
But the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect had already placed it in his mouth.
*Crunch.*
The change was instantaneous.
*Clang!*
«…Huh?»
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect caught Wi Seol-ah’s incoming blade with his bare hand. Startled, she gasped involuntarily.
*Boom!*
«Ugh!»
A powerful force struck her abdomen, catapulting her backward. She skidded across the ground, digging her heels in to slow her momentum. Though she lessened the impact, the pain in her stomach made her clutch it.
«…Ugh…»
She had predicted the attack and gathered protective energy there, but it was not enough to neutralize the force completely.
«Haaa…»
Wi Seol-ah regulated her breathing and readied her stance. By then, Namgung Bi-ah had also risen to her feet.
Both women turned their attention to the transformed Master of the Celestial Stream Sect.
«…Unni.»
«…Yeah.»
Wi Seol-ah gently brushed her hand against Namgung Bi-ah’s arm. A tremor ran through her. The aura she sensed was overwhelming.
«…Heh…»
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect slowly stood. His metamorphosis was already complete.
His once dark hair was now stark white.
His already tall frame had expanded, towering over eight feet. His formerly lean swordsman’s build was now grotesquely muscular, looking as if it might burst.
Even more disturbing were the scales emerging across his skin and the golden color consuming his eyes.
«…»
Namgung Bi-ah immediately glanced at Wi Seol-ah.
Wi Seol-ah swallowed hard.
[Haaa…]
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect released a deep sigh.
[Ahhh…]
The sound of his voice caused Namgung Bi-ah to flinch. The power carried within it felt like it could puncture her lungs.
He was dangerous. Whatever he had become, the current Master of the Celestial Stream Sect was a severe threat.
[Do you know what this is?]
His voice seemed to vibrate through the entire chamber.
[This was an artifact even the Star King… no, not even that bastard would deign to use. A treasure too precious for him. And yet, I have consumed it because of you.]
It was a waste. A profound shame, yet the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect could smile. The sheer exhilaration and supremacy he now felt were intoxicating.
[But I suppose it is irrelevant now. You wretched…]
As his words faded, his gaze settled on Wi Seol-ah. He tilted his head, puzzled.
[Hmm?]
«…»
While the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect stared at Wi Seol-ah, deep in thought—
«…Unni.»
Wi Seol-ah called to Namgung Bi-ah, a signal passing between them.
Simultaneously, Wi Seol-ah gathered her suppressed power. Her innate energy began to awaken. If Namgung Bi-ah summoned Thunder Fang, perhaps they still had a opportunity.
Clutching that hope, Wi Seol-ah prepared herself, but Namgung Bi-ah laid a hand on her shoulder.
«…No.»
«What? But… then…»
Wi Seol-ah cut herself off. There were no other options.
«It’s okay.»
Namgung Bi-ah spoke with tranquil certainty, her voice full of faith. Wi Seol-ah followed her gaze toward the sealed door.
Just then, the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect seemed to have a realization as he stared at Wi Seol-ah.
[Ah, I understand now. You are… no, you must be…]
*Crack.*
[Hmm?]
A noise interrupted him. He turned his head toward the door behind him.
The only thing there was the sealed metal door. So why was there sound emanating from it?
*Craaaack—*
[What?]
The source was obvious. The metal door was being bent and ripped apart from the outside.
Impossible.
[That door… is meant to be unbreakable!]
This underground chamber was designed to be impregnable. No one should have been able to open or destroy it.
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect refused to believe what he was witnessing.
Yet, the door rapidly lost its form, warping and contorting—
*Boom!*
With an earsplitting crash, the entire metal door was torn from its frame.
And then—
Something flew toward the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect.
It wasn’t until it was mere inches from his face that he identified it.
A fist.
*Smash! Boom!*
The punch connected, driving the Master of the Celestial Stream Sect face-first into the floor.
«Urgh…!»
A groan of pain escaped him, but it was abruptly cut off.
A foot now hovered above his head.
[Wait—!]
*Crunch!*
The foot stomped down on his skull, cracking the ground beneath it into a spiderweb pattern.
The supposedly indestructible floor shattered with ease.
«Ugh… ugh…»
The Master of the Celestial Stream Sect shuddered under the crushing pressure.
Standing over him was a young man with violet eyes. Gu Yangcheon.
«…What the hell is this monstrous freak?»
Despite his actions, Gu Yangcheon’s tone was one of pure bewilderment.
