Chapter 1053

*Crack—!!*

Dark fire erupted across the plain, spreading like an unchecked blaze. A succession of heavy, thunderous impacts echoed in its wake.

*Boom—! Kuung—!!!*

Sparks flew through the pressurized air, and between them, the massive form of Du Ryeong wildly swung his axe.

Flames coiled around the weapon’s edge, forging it into a crude and lethal shape. The fire’s growth only strengthened and enlarged the blade, extending its reach.

Du Ryeong swung with all his strength, as if determined to smash everything in his way.

Yet the man facing him deflected each blow with effortless ease.

Dodging the axe smoothly, the man spoke.

“Du Ryeong.”

He called the giant’s name, but Du Ryeong was too consumed by motion to reply.

“Answer me, Du Ryeong.”

“Shut up—!”

“……”

Ignoring him, Du Ryeong stomped the ground with all his might.

*Kuooong—!!*

The earth fractured and collapsed under his foot, a testament to the tremendous force he exerted. Using that momentum, Du Ryeong swung his axe once more.

*Kuaaaah—!!!!*

“Hmph.”

The black flames twisted, forming the visage of a charging bison that surged toward the man.

The man sighed and spread his wings. Feathers drifted down from their span.

*Thwack.*

Plucking a white feather from the air, he shaped it into a spear.

“A pointless effort.”

With a powerful swing, the trident cut through the air, hurling a flash of white lightning into the black flames.

It was not a collision—it was utter annihilation.

*Kwa-ga-ga-k—!!*

The white energy sliced through the dark fire with no resistance.

“……”

Du Ryeong’s eyes widened as the flames vanished without a trace. In that instant, the man surged forward, closing the distance.

The man’s slender fingers reached for Du Ryeong’s thick neck.

Then—*Kuung—!!!!*

With one crushing motion, he slammed Du Ryeong’s body into the ground.

“Guhhkk…!!”

The impact pinned Du Ryeong flat against the earth, his limbs splayed.

“Du Ryeong. What is the meaning of this form?”

Keeping Du Ryeong immobilized, the man demanded an answer.

“What is this pitiful state you’re in?”

Despite the question, Du Ryeong only responded with a low growl.

“Grrrgh……”

Was he refusing? The man tilted his head slightly, his voice turning colder.

“Answer me.”

*Wuuuung—!!*

A vibration rippled through the air.

It was the effect of Command (Myeong)—words infused with absolute power and authority.

Chains of compulsion formed from the command, wrapping around Du Ryeong’s body. If he would not answer willingly, the command would force him.

“Grrrkkk……”

“Hm?”

But Du Ryeong resisted.

The man’s eyes narrowed in disbelief.

His command, which should have overridden all will, was being defied.

“How…?”

Du Ryeong was enduring it. This was inconceivable.

“Impossible. You’re enduring it?”

This was not something that could be withstood.

“Is this possible…?”

The man scrutinized Du Ryeong, his gaze intensifying.

Then, after a moment—

“Hah.”

Understanding dawned.

The energy of the command was not fully penetrating Du Ryeong.

“What…?”

A dark energy was seeping from him, interfering with the command.

That black aura—what was it? It was a vile presence that made the very air feel repulsive. This energy was neutralizing the command.

This could mean only one thing.

The black energy possessed a strength capable of countering the command.

It wasn’t Du Ryeong’s energy.

No—it was…

“Ah, I see.”

The man finally understood. He had encountered this energy before.

“It’s that bastard’s.”

The one who had fought him in his own domain.

The young dragon had been the source of this power.

For Du Ryeong to be carrying it meant—

“You fool. Did you betray me?”

Du Ryeong had sided with the dragon.

“Kh…!”

Du Ryeong tensed at the words but stayed silent.

“So, you’ve abandoned all reason to follow that creature?”

The man looked down at Du Ryeong with scorn.

“He really fooled you, didn’t he? To betray the Master of the Abyss, for a mere dragon?”

“Pathetic.”

A wave of disappointment washed over the man’s face. He had once believed Du Ryeong possessed pride and strength.

But this?

He raised his trident.

“There’s no need to see more.”

White energy gathered at the spear’s tip—

—and he drove it downward, aiming for Du Ryeong’s skull.

*Shiiiik—!!*

But before the spear found its mark—

*Tang—!*

“Hm?”

The spear faltered, stopped short of its target.

An invisible barrier seemed to block it, as if the spear had been tethered by an unseen force.

“Who dares?”

The man’s gaze shot upward, sensing the intrusion.

His sharp, azure eyes found the figure hovering above.

A calm, aged voice came from the figure.

“There was so much noise… I came out to see what was happening. Seems a foolish situation is unfolding.”

A turtle-like face, a heavy shell, and a beard uncharacteristic of his kind.

Dressed in white silk embroidered with crimson thread, the figure descended from the sky toward the man.

“Hmm.”

The man’s lips curled into a smirk.

“To see you here… this is unexpected.”

Recognition flashed in his eyes.

“I see now. No wonder. I was wondering who could craft such a marvelous barrier. So it was you.”

“Hmph. I appreciate the compliment, though it hardly sounds sincere.”

The Turtle Elder of Mount Hua Sect.

As the ancient figure landed and slowly approached, he let out a soft sigh while observing the man.

“……Hmm.”

“How repulsive. It seems you’ve crossed the line. Is that right?”

“Repulsive? That’s not correct.”

The man laughed.

“This is the most noble and grand appearance. Moreover, isn’t this something you once possessed as well?”

Well, perhaps others wouldn’t understand, but for that being, to deny this form was unthinkable.

“Nonsense.”

The Turtle shook his head, visibly irritated.

“If you reached this state by your own efforts or were chosen, then perhaps I could understand. But how can you call it glorious when you inherited it like a puppet? You know this, don’t you?”

*Sshing.*

The Turtle’s staff pointed toward the man, its tip shimmering as the environment began to warp.

“That is fake. Do not comfort yourself with false prestige.”

“……”

The man fell silent for a moment, struck by the Turtle’s firm words.

But after a short pause—

*Clack.*

With a sharp sound of grinding teeth, three pairs of wings spread wide.

*Chwaaak—!!!*

“Bullshit.”

As the massive wings unfurled, a violent gust of wind blasted out, distorting the space around them.

“False prestige? Why do you think you have the right to decide such a thing?”

A twisted expression appeared on the man’s face.

“This is an opportunity given to me by the heavens. It is a stepping stone I’ve earned myself.”

*Creak.*

The trident, materializing from nowhere, was seized by the man as he shouted at the Turtle.

“You seem to be comparing me to something you’ve lost. Don’t make such a mistake.”

“……”

“I am different from you, Du Ryeong. The master of the lost world.”

The Turtle narrowed his eyes.

“Ghosts should stay as ghosts and vanish into the abyss.”

As those words were spoken,

*Whoooo—!!!*

The Turtle’s staff began to hum softly, vibrating in the air.

**********

Meanwhile—

*Shiiing-!!!*

The golden space tore open as the man raced forward like one possessed.

He did not know how long he had been inside the Magyeong Gate.

It felt like a few hours had passed, but he seemed no closer to the end.

As he flew on, he glanced back and asked.

“How much farther do we need to go?”

He asked urgently, and Yarang held up two fingers.

He wasn’t sure what it signified, but it seemed they were nearing the destination. At least, he hoped so.

Drawing a deep breath, he pushed his speed even higher.

‘Was it a mistake to just trust what I was told?’

He wasn’t certain, but there was no path back now.

No matter how urgent, this felt like a reckless gamble.

How long would this take? Was this truly the right choice?

Doubts stormed within him, but it was far too late to turn back.

‘I can’t go back now.’

He had already come too far. Retreat was not an option.

‘Would it have been better to demand to be let out and run immediately?’

Logically, that seemed correct, but he hesitated, uncertain.

Was it right to trust Yarang? He had no reason for doubt, yet unease persisted.

That single thought drove him onward, compelling him to fly like a madman.

‘Cheonma.’

She flew behind him, her expression unreadable. Was the speed within this space somehow slower? Or were Yarang and Cheonma simply faster than he anticipated, matching his pace without effort?

In his state of urgency, he had no time to ponder it.

‘What is happening?’

What in the world was occurring at Mount Hua Sect?

Why had the Turtle spoken so cryptically?

‘Please.’

I hope it is nothing serious. But even if something has happened, I hope we can still prevent it.

Clutching that hope, he flew on.

After a time, a bright light emerged in the distance.

That had to be—

‘The exit?’

It seemed he was finally reaching the end. Summoning the last of his strength, he hurtled toward the light.

*Thump—!*

The sensation of breaking through the energy was identical to when he first entered the Magyeong Gate.

The surroundings shifted, and the world resolved into view.

“This… is…”

His eyes widened at the transformed scenery.

He recognized it.

‘It’s Mount Hua Sect.’

This was the entrance to the Mount Hua Sect, the very place they used to travel to and from Yahwol.

“What is this…?”

He was rendered speechless by the drastically altered scene.

It was unrecognizable from what he remembered.
