Chapter 1028

Rooooooaaaar—!!!!

The creature’s roar reverberated through the area.

Crack! Crack!

The very atmosphere splintered, breaking apart into fragments that fell like rain. It wasn’t just a few cracks—innumerable fractures spread through the void, seeping with a dark, menacing energy.

The sheer pressure of its aura was crushing the space around it.

Kiiiaaaaah!!
Grrrhhhkk!

Cries from countless beasts filled the air, weighing heavily on the atmosphere.

Grrrrr……

The chieftain released a low, rough growl as he stared into the emptiness.

What was that? Something felt deeply sinister.

The fractures continued to widen.

Watching them, the chieftain tightened his hold on his weapon.

“You wretch.”
“…!”

A voice cut through.

“You’re afraid.”

The chieftain’s eyes shifted from the sky to the figure in front of him.

There he stood—arrogant, proclaiming himself the heavens.

“Are you scared?”

A mask covered his face, only the vivid violet glow of his eyes visible beneath it.

Afraid? Him?

“What a joke.”

Boom!

The chieftain slammed his axe into the ground.

At that moment—

Roooaaar–!!!!

Something fell from the fractures near him.

Thud! Thud thud–!!

Massive forms crashed onto the rocky ground, shattering it to pieces.

On closer look, they were enormous beasts.

Standing on two legs.

Gripping swords and shields.

Humanoid, yet unmistakably not human.

Watching them, Cheonma—

Gu Yangcheon tilted his head slightly.

Well, now?

A strange feeling passed through him. A peculiar sense of familiarity struck his senses.

They aren’t alive, are they?

He hadn’t realized it at first, but now it was clear.

Those things—they have no life.

The ground was now covered with creatures that weren’t truly living.

An unnatural sensation prickled across his skin.

They seemed to breathe, but…

They gave the appearance. Their chests and shoulders rose and fell faintly, as if taking controlled breaths.

Even the sound of exhaling—a soft hoo—could be heard.

But they have no soul.

They were missing the distinct presence all living things carry.

That warmth.

That spark of life.

Hmm.

What were they? He couldn’t tell.

And also—

It wasn’t the chieftain who had summoned them.

The one behind this wasn’t the chieftain. That was clear from his expression.

Extreme wariness. And within it, a frustration with no clear target.

That frustration wasn’t aimed at Gu Yangcheon. Even the word the chieftain had yelled earlier—

“Raven–!!”

That was the name he’d shouted the instant the Magyeong Gate opened.

Raven, huh.

Who did that refer to? He didn’t know.

Even when he stretched out his senses, he couldn’t locate anyone.

Was it because they were that powerful? Or—

Was it simply because it was night?

He glanced upward. The moonlight shone blindingly bright.

A new question emerged.

Unlike daytime, he couldn’t sense anyone’s presence within Marryeong Mountain.

The moment night fell, it was as though they had all vanished like ghosts.

Which meant—

Is it just because it’s night?

Or was it some unique property of Marryeong Mountain itself?

Whatever the case, one thing was certain.

I need to figure out the cause.

Was he unable to sense the mountain’s presence? Or was being in Marryeong Mountain itself interfering with his senses?

That distinction was crucial.

Hmm.

What had made his senses so unreliable?

The question lingered, sharpening his alertness.

Something had created that rift—something he still couldn’t sense.

Which means it might still be close.

It could be lying in wait, just like before, aiming for him.

He couldn’t afford to drop his guard.

Unfortunately, I’ll have to leave that matter to someone else.

He had already made arrangements regarding that.

For now, his attention needed to be on what was in front of him.

Kyaaaaaah!
Grrrroooooar–!!!

The bipedal beasts surrounding the chieftain radiated hostility.

Even without life, the killing intent they emitted was real.

Saliva dripped from between their fangs.

Sssszzzzz–!!!

Where it landed, the ground sizzled and melted.

And there were so many of them. At a glance, their numbers easily surpassed a hundred.

Gu Yangcheon smirked.

“Not bad.”

He showed no fear at their numbers.

Then he spoke to the chieftain.

“If you plan to capture me, I’d expect nothing less.”

Grrrrr…….

The chieftain released a discontented growl, but nothing more.

He was displeased, but he didn’t refuse the challenge.

The one who had been enraged at having his battle interrupted was acting unusually this time.

Had he abandoned his pride? That didn’t seem likely.

Does he have something planned?

There was no doubt he had an ulterior motive.

That much was obvious.

But—

Swish.

Gu Yangcheon raised his hand.

“…?”

A flicker of doubt appeared in the chieftain’s eyes.

Over a hundred enemies.

And yet, Gu Yangcheon showed no fear.

Enemies without life, driven only by killing intent.

No matter how many there were—

The same applied to his side.

Coincidentally—

Roooaaaar–!!!!

The beings under his command weren’t so different.

Crack! Crack!

The fractures widened, emitting a violet light.

And from within—

Figures emerged.

Kyaaaaaah—!!!!

The hostile beasts lunged at him.

Their speed was startling.

One’s claws reached for his throat—

«Devour.»

He whispered softly.

Crunch!

From the catastrophe he had unleashed, his own beasts surged forward—

And tore out the enemy’s throat.

**********

Kyaaaaaah—!!!
Krrraaaaaa—!!!!!

The vast stretches of Marryeong Mountain echoed with the relentless howls of beasts. The sounds of shattering and tearing flesh filled the air simultaneously.

It was a gruesome, chilling spectacle.

A brutal clash defined by overwhelming numbers. The sheer intensity of the battle, fueled by violent killing intent, heated the very air.

A true asura field.

Not a single gap remained in the sprawling battlefield.

Amid the tightly packed chaos, a ferocious battle raged.

Watching from above, a man hovering midair furrowed his brow.

What the hell is this…?

Flap.

His black wings spread as he stared down with trembling eyes.

What in the world was happening?

This was beyond anything he had anticipated.

Even if he didn’t particularly like that brute, he couldn’t just let him die, so he had meant to offer some slight assistance.

He had even gone so far as to interfere with a space that should have remained sealed without his master’s command, just to send reinforcements.

And yet—who the hell is that?

A being called Cheonma.

An unknown entity.

Rumors had spread that this one had been causing chaos throughout the Myriad Realms lately. At first, he had dismissed it as a minor disturbance.

But to his shock, this thing had killed one of their generals—one of the Yusa.

It hadn’t been officially confirmed, but from what he saw, it was almost certain.

The first death of a general in hundreds of years.

That alone was reason enough to be wary.

And yet those fools don’t even care.

He could understand why that brute of a chieftain was indifferent. That idiot cared about nothing but Marryeong Mountain and fighting.

That woman Yarang wasn’t much different either.

She was just a wanderer who hadn’t even possessed a Sacred Wood, and though she had somehow gained her master’s favor and become a general, her position had always been unstable.

At the very least, Yusa would have taken things seriously.

But that fool died first.

Whether this was part of the enemy’s plan or not, the situation was undeniably serious.

Not only were the two remaining generals practically useless—

Even our master is acting strangely.

The odd shift in their master’s condition was another concern.

Ever since the Master of the Abyssal Pit failed their duty and disappeared—

The Master of the Myriad Realms had urgently moved their main body to seal the rift left by the Abyssal Pit.

Now anchored in place, what sat on the throne was little more than a hollow shell, with only their mind remaining.

That alone might explain their abnormal state, but…

Is that really all there is to it?

Something about this felt wrong.

If things had reached this point, our master should have already taken action.

A general’s death had upset the balance of the Myriad Realms.

The master should have stepped in personally.

After all, those beings never tolerated anomalies in their realms.

And she—one of the highest-ranked—was tasked with overseeing the Myriad Realms.

And yet—

Why isn’t she moving?

She must be aware of what was happening.

Yet, for some reason, she remained oddly passive.

I don’t understand.

The man simply couldn’t make sense of it.

At this rate—

…Should I report this to my true master?

Not the Master of the Myriad Realms.

His real master.

The thought entered his mind.

It’s not time yet.

Even if the moment was approaching, it wasn’t time yet.

They had been waiting for the perfect opportunity. Acting now, amid such uncertainty, would be unwise.

Which means I can’t let the chieftain die just yet.

If the time hadn’t come, then the chieftain needed to survive.

He didn’t know how powerful this Cheonma was or what his goal was—

But I need to intervene.

The power he was wielding was far from ordinary.

How was he…

…able to use something so similar to the Abyssal Pit’s authority?

Tearing open a rift and summoning forces.

That resembled the power of the Abyssal Pit, something only used with their master’s permission.

Of course—

It’s not exactly the same.

It was a power he had never seen before.

So there had to be a difference.

But I can’t let this continue.

His instincts screamed. That thing could not be allowed to run free.

And as if confirming his instincts—

The monstrous black beasts Cheonma had summoned were wiping out the reinforcements he had sent to aid the chieftain.

Click.

Is it still not enough?

He frowned and subtly moved his fingers.

If he sent more forces, he might endanger himself.

The Master of the Myriad Realms didn’t care about much, but they despised those who used power without permission.

He knew that well.

And yet—

I have no choice.

For his plan to succeed, the chieftain could not die.

So, even if it meant overextending, he was prepared to send more forces.

That was when—

“Found you.”

A soft voice sounded nearby.

He whipped his head around.

Crunch–!!

“Ghk–!!”

A pale hand shot out and seized his face.

“You.”

And then—

“You’re coming with me.”

His body was hurled downward, plummeting toward the ground at a terrifying speed.
